Oneida County > Boonville
Population: 4,518
Boon was named after Garret (alt. spellings Garrett, Gerrit) Boon, agent with the Holland Land Company.
When fire destroyed five Main Street buildings in 2020, nonprofit organizations stepped up to help displaced residents and businesses. The American Red Cross handed out financial aid. The Boonville United Methodist Church sheltered the homeless. Funders such as the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties provided grants to the fire relief fund. And a GoFundMe effort raised more than $26,000 in a week.
